Mackinac Island

One of our area's most iconic locations.

General Info

Only eight miles in size, Mackinac Island is a great place to go if you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of busy roads; cars are only allowed on the main highway of Mackinac Island. People get around by walking, riding bicycles or riding horses, which means you'll be able to meet tons of new people who are from all walks of life. You'll love the quaint city of Mackinac Island, which is why we recommend you hop onto a ferry or get a plane ticket to go there.

Activities

Tour the island
Go on a guided or unguided tour around Mackinac Island in a carriage. This experience offers you with a stunning view of the island, with the tour lasting an hour and a half. You can reserve a carriage with Mackinac Island Carriage Tours, Jack's Livery Stable, Grand Hotel Stables and more. Or if you're good at horseback riding, you can rent a horse and go riding around the island.

Taste a helping of fudge
See fudge made in action at the fudge stores scattered throughout the island. The fudge shops on the island make over 10,000 pounds of fudge a day, so you won't be able to miss out on this popular dessert. You'll love meeting all the kind staff who are experts at what they do.

Get a massage
Need to relax even further on the island? Visit one of the island's spas and feel your worries melt away as your body is given a rejuvenating treatment. You can also get your nails done, so you'll look even more nice in your vacation pictures.

Go golfing
If you're looking to play a round of golf, we recommend you visit the Grand Hotel's The Jewel Mackinac golf course. This golf course is unique because, between each hole, you can ride a horse-drawn carriage to get across the course. Though, there are still golf carts available if you prefer that.

More Activities

Rent a bike and go on a night ride
Mackinac Island is a wonderful adventure when visiting at night. You'll be able to see the stars clearly and enjoy a calming stroll on the boardwalk under the moon. If you rent a bike, you can experience all of the island at night at a much faster pace.

Go kayaking or parasailing
Explore the island's many rock formations, lighthouses and wildlife via a kayak tour or parasailing across the island. Some of the animals you might be able to see include: trout, bats, bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, yellow warblers and mallard ducks. Or take a swim in the water to cool off from the sun.

Get a caricature done of you
Make memories by getting a cool caricature done of you. Find something to smile at by having someone draw you as an exaggerated cartoon.

Learn about blacksmithing
Watch blacksmiths like the ones at Benjamin Blacksmith Shop forge horseshoes, hinges, fireplace tools and more! You can also learn about the history of blacksmiths being on Mackinac Island.

Very nice place with so many things to do and see. A huge island with awesome food. The view of the water so unexplainable. The island it self is nice as I said. The bike trails are fun and beautiful as well also riding along the water is the best. I drove a long time and it was worth it. From taking off from the ferry to returning was all so fun. Everyone has to go see that place and try there fudge.

This is such an amazing place. There is so much to do. There are all the shops and restaurants, with plenty of opportunities for fudge and ice cream. You can bike around the island, but there are also lots of paths on the interior of the island. Some of them are really challenging, but there are lots of scenic views and a hidden park. It would be fun to spend a week here.

Beautiful island on Lake Huron with so much history in it, it’s a nice gateway from the bustling traffic of the car, and enjoy the carriage ride on this small island like the old days, lots of restaurants, and shopping options. Nice places for vacation aren’t cheap. Must take a bike ride around the island if you can.
